About two weeks ago, I asked my parents once again if I could possibly see the tour at any of the remaining spots. I'd figured out all the costs, and I have enough money to pay for a plane ticket, show ticket, and hotel for both me and one of my parents. Apparently this wasn't good enough for them, and they still said no. Their reasoning: "You don't need to see something more than twice!" This is the stupidest reason ever, because in the past week, my dad has seen the same movie twice already, and he'll probably watch it again soon. The only difference between a movie and Les Mis is that Les Mis is way more expensive. That shouldn't matter though, if I was going to use my own money. The only reason I could understand for not being able to go is that they don't want me to fly to another state, because I understand that it's a long distance and they might not be comfortable with it.
So when the possibility of seeing Les Mis in Kansas came up, I managed to convince myself that my parents would say yes. (Note to self: don't get hopes up around parents.) After all, it's only a 7 hour drive, or an even shorter flight than to anywhere else I'd asked to go. Plus, the tickets to the Kansas production cost less than any tour tickets. But somehow, my parents still managed to say no.
The thing that makes me the saddest is that I know that if my brothers did similar planning and could cover all the expenses of travelling to another state, and the only difference is that they wanted to attend a sports game instead of Les Mis, my dad would have said yes almost immediately. So I've basically been screwed over because I happen to like things other than sports. Fantastic.
